The United States Qualified for the World Cup and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt

Less than an hour after the United States beat Mexico Tuesday night 2-0 in Columbus this email from the U.S. Soccer Federation popped into my inbox. Nope, it wasn’t a boilerplate missive to announce that the team had qualified for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil. Instead the USSF announced the news in, what else, t-shirt form.

QUALIFIED.

I’d laugh if this wasn’t so incredibly lame.

This isn’t to downplay making the World Cup, which the U.S. has now accomplished seven straight times. But this shirt? Under what circumstances could you ever see yourself buying and or wearing it? It’s hard to think of a scenario aside from the actual players themselves during their on-field celebrations.

On the plus side, it does remind me of some of those homemade “Achiever” shirts Big Lebowski fans make themselves and sell on Cafe Press. So there’s that.

And to be fair, this “Qualified” collage U.S. Soccer posted to its Instagram account is very nice.
