Toronto Blue Jays centerfielder Colby Rasmus was forced to leave last night’s game against Boston after suffering a freak injury. As he headed out to take his position in the middle of the first inning, he was struck just below his left eye by a warmup throw from rightfielder Anthony Gose.

"“I thought he was looking at me,” said Gose, who was visibly shaken — tears welling in his eyes — after the game. “I was just trying to give him the ball to play catch with Rajai.” Rasmus was taken to a local hospital for a CT scan. There was no other update on his condition, but he is likely the latest Blue Jay shut down for the season "

The accident served as both an important reminder to pay attention and was a poetic illustration of the big-budget team’s lackluster season.
