The Atlanta Braves made it a formality Sunday, officially clinching the National League East even though they’ve basically had the division wrapped up since the All-Star Break.
Although the Braves have known this day was coming for weeks, it didn’t damper their celebration in the Wrigley Field clubhouse. Goggles and beer showers are basically mandatory in the locker room after clinching, but the worm seems to be the hotness in 2013. Yasiel Puig did it after the Dodgers locked up the NL West, and Freddie Freeman of the Braves did it Sunday.
Did Freeman do this as a way to tweak Puig? Was he trying to defend the honor of the Chase Field pool? Maybe he was simply caught up in the fun of the moment. Or perhaps Puig and Freeman were once fans of former WWF wrestler Scotty 2 Hotty?
