Tuesday’s Champions League match between FC Shalke and Basel in Switzerland was delayed about five minutes when Greenpeace members descended from the roof to display a banner protesting Gazprom, a Russian gas concern which is one of the tournament’s largest sponsors.

Whatever your politics you have to applaud this sort of brazen, albeit well-coordinated move, by the protesters. That’s raising the bar for everybody else.

Schalke won 1-0 on this perfectly-struck volley by Julian Draxler.
