Monster Truck Barrels Into Crowd, Killing at Least 8, Injuring Dozens More at Mexican Air Show [Update]

A monster truck show in Mexico ended in tragedy on Saturday. Witnesses say the driver lost his helmet and hit his head after jumping some cars during the “Extreme Aeroshow” in Chihuahua, Mexico. The driver then lost control of the truck as it drove into the crowd, killing eight people. 80 other people have been reported injured, with 46 still in the hospital on Sunday morning. The number of dead and injured could still rise as information comes in. The video above is a wide shot showing the truck going into the crowd. [Miami Herald / AP]

Update: According to the AP / Daily Mail:

"Authorities say alcohol was detected on the breath of Francico Velazquez, who was performing stunts a the event on the outskirts of Chihuahua. Velazquez was detained Sunday on suspicion of manslaughter and investigators are also looking into possible safety violations in the setup of the show."
