Anibal Sanchez Shelled; Seth Smith's Homer Left Matt Vasgersian Very Excited
By Mike Cardillo
Anibal Sanchez led the American League in ERA this year. It didn’t matter much in Monday’s ALDS Game 3 start against Oakland in Detroit. The righty coughed up three homers — including two in the fifth inning after the Tigers had tied the score at 3-3.
Sanchez seemed particularly disgusted with himself after Brandon Moss’ laser shot to right with one out made it 4-3.
Despite the reaction, Jim Leyland decided to leave Sanchez in the game. Sanchez then walked Yoenis Cespedes. (Again Leyland kept him in the game). Lefty Seth Smith then lofted a fly ball to left that carried the fence and gave the A’s a 6-3 lead in the fifth.
The homer left MLB Network’s Matt Vasgersian excited as it landed in the bullpen.
Meanwhile it quieted the crowd at Comerica Park. [GIF via 8-bit Sports]
