Grant Balfour, Victor Martinez Exchanged F-Bombs and Benches Cleared in Detroit

Grant Balfour and Victor Martinez dropped numerous audible f-bombs picked up by the MLB Network microphones during the bottom of the ninth of their ALDS game Monday in Detroit. Martinez took exception to something Balfour said and walked toward the Aussie-born pitcher, who is nicknamed “Rage.” (Balfour’s intensity is well-known throughout baseball.)

Out of nowhere it escalated quickly. The benches cleared, but no punches were thrown.

It was, in a word, tremendous.

Balfour eventually settled down and closed out Oakland’s 6-3 which gives them a 2-1 series lead.
