Miami Dolphins Beat the Cincinnati Bengals on a Walkoff Safety

Andy Dalton sacked for a safety in overtime-bHalloween night football ended in bizarre fashion, when Andy Dalton was sacked right on the goal line by Cameron Wake for a safety. It is only the third game in NFL history to end in overtime on a safety. The other two were this game in 2004 with the Bears beating the Titans, and a 1989 game between the Vikings and Rams that ended on a punt block safety.

Both coaches punted in “no man’s land” on the opponent’s side of the field in overtime. Marvin Lewis opted for a punt rather than a long field goal attempt to win it. Miami then moved it down the field into Cincinnati territory, but got stopped and faced a 4th and 2. That punt decision turned out to work out, as they downed it and then set up the final safety for the win.
