Mike Francesa responded to Keith Olbermann’s comments about Boomer Esiason, Craig Carton and himself. It took a caller — a day after the feud came to light — to bring the issue up and Francesa didn’t seem to think Olbermann took a shot at him or mention him at all.
While Olbermann’s comment about Francesa wasn’t quite as direct as those he made about Boomer and Carton, he did say that WEPN (ESPN New York) “doesn’t carry programs that people listen to so they can laugh at the host as they fall asleep.”
A second caller brought up the Olbermann comments and Francesa responded in classic “Sports Pope” fashion:
I don’t think I was and why would Keith Olbermann, as dumb as he is, ever say that I don’t have ratings?
I really don’t care. I don’t have an opinion about Keith Olbermann. I do, I think he’s just kinda lost myself. What is this his 8th job in his last 5 years so I’m not really worried about Olbermann. I don’t really care if he said anything about me or not.
All I can tell you is that when we went head-to-head or I went head-to-head against Olbermann it was ugly. The ratings were ugly and they did radio shows against us and it was ugly. And Dan Patrick, who used to say “I give up” cause he’s a gentleman, I like Dan Patrick. Olbermann is just a jerk. Patrick is a good guy and he’s a good radio guy too, but we used to bury those guys.
Mike famously once said that “you couldn’t find Dan Patrick’s ratings with a microscope”.
[Update: Olbermann has already responded … to the Francesa parody account.]
