Big Papi in politics? It appears some folks in Boston wouldn’t mind the Red Sox designated hitter running the city.

Ortiz reportedly finished third in the recent mayoral election thanks to over 500 write-in votes. (Here’s guessing Larry Bird finished fourth and the guy from House of Pain came in fifth.)

Martin Walsh won the election, replacing Thomas Menino. It remains to be seen if the Mayor-elect has a better grasp of the Boston sports scene than Menino, who was last seen urging on the Sox to bring home the “World Series Cup.” The runner-up in the election, John Connolly, didn’t take the news of his defeat very well.

If Ortiz were somehow elected, we’d definitely need a spot for his son, D’Angelo, in his cabinet. D’Angelo Ortiz could run the department of chill.
