Prince Fielder, Detroit’s $214 million first baseman, has been traded to the Texas Rangers for Ian Kinsler, according to a report from CBS Sports.

Detroit had been looking to escape from under Fielder’s contract. The hefty 29-year-old is still owed $168 million over seven years. This presumably frees the Tigers to sign Max Scherzer to a long-term deal and extend Miguel Cabrera, who still has two years and $44 million remaining. Kinsler, 31, is owed at least $62 million through 2017.

Not clear how much Tigers fans will miss their star who had one extra base hit in 40 postseason at bats and responded to the Tigers’ playoff defeat with a nonplussed “It’s over, bro.”
