Packers Tie Vikings 26-26, the 4th NFL Tie in the Last 15 Years
By Jason McIntyre
Green Bay tied Minnesota, 26-26, in a wacky game that was alternatively exciting – Tolzien! Lacy! – and beyond boring (see, overtime). The women who wore bikinis to the game will remember it well: “Remember that time I got mono … it was at that game that ended in a tie!”
Here’s an oddity: The last seven NFL ties have all happened in November. I can’t begin to explain why that is. Weather? It’s worse in December. Then again, in December, teams are in must-win mode for the playoffs, and nobody wants to settle for a tie. Although it’s not like anyone wants a tie in November, either.
November 19, 1989 Cleveland Browns Kansas City Chiefs 10–10
November 16, 1997 Baltimore Ravens Philadelphia Eagles 10–10
November 23, 1997 Washington Redskins New York Giants 7–7
November 10, 2002 Pittsburgh Steelers Atlanta Falcons 34–34
November 16, 2008 Cincinnati Bengals Philadelphia Eagles 13–13
November 11, 2012 San Francisco 49ers St. Louis Rams 24–24
This was a rough Sunday for the NFC North. Detroit and Chicago, the first place teams (6-5), lost to Tampa and St. Louis, respectively. The Lions fell at home when Matt Stafford was intercepted four times. Both will regret the losses and a chance to open up a lead on the Packers (5-5-1), especially because Aaron Rodgers is expected back Thursday.
