Snow, Hail Halt Juventus/Galatasaray Champions League Game [UPDATE]
By Mike Cardillo
Juventus and Galatasaray are playing a do-or-die Champions League game today in Istanbul. The winner advances to the knockout rounds, the loser goes home. The game has been halted midway through the first half due to a hail storm pelting the Türk Telekom Arena. They tried to keep playing with an orange ball, but snow began to cover the lines on the field making it unplayable.
Given what happened across the Northeast on Sunday during NFL action, this delay will do little to dispell the notion that soccer players are “soft.”
UPDATE: The game was abandoned due to the weather.
