Philly Cops Plan to Wear Saints Gear During Saturday's Playoff Game in Attempt to Keep the Peace

Philadelphia sports fans are hardcore and passionate about their favorite teams. Sometimes they even like to take it to extreme levels. If you’ve paid even the slightest attention to sports over the last century you might have heard about this reputation. We shouldn’t be breaking new ground here.

Partly due to this — and 15 arrests along with 68 ejections during the Eagles’ last home game at Lincoln Financial Field — Philadelphia police are taking measures to curb obnoxious fan behavior for Saturday’s night’s NFC Playoff Game with the Saints. According to a report by WPVI, cops will  attend the game wearing New Orleans regalia. (Hopefully a throwback Pat Swilling jersey is in the mix.)

When drinking is involved, crossing the line between “supporting the team” and becoming a belligerent jerk at a sporting event can happen fairly quickly. It’s exactly not a terrible idea by the Philly police to be proactive especially with all the pregaming in the parking lot an 8 p.m. kickoff affords. That said, if you spend over $120 for a playoff ticket (and rising on Stub Hub) and decide to act like a jackass and go after an undercover cop in a Bobby Hebert jersey, the joke is on you.

Feels like a good time to remember the piece Real Sports did on drinking before NFL games.
