Arizona State Fans Storm Court Prematurely in Upset of Arizona, Annoy Bill Walton in Process
By Mike Cardillo
Arizona State upset No. 2 Arizona 69-66 in double overtime late Friday night thanks to two big 3-pointers from Jermaine Marshall and a huge block from Jordan Bachynski. Jahii Carson put an exclamation point on it with a breakaway dunk — although it appeared he hung on the rim for an extended period of time. No matter, the potential technical foul wasn’t called.
ASU fans stormed onto the court — to the dismay of ESPN’s Bill Walton who worried about the safety of everyone on the court. The fans needed to be cleared away since there was still 0.5 seconds left. Arizona got a final heave, it went off the rim and Sun Devils fans ran back onto the court for the second time to celebrate the upset.
Until further notice this is the craziest finish of the 2014 NCAA season.
