Alan Pardew, manager of Newcastle United, headbutted (or at least attempted to headbutt) Hull City player David Meyer during Saturday’s Premier League match. Pardew was sent off for his actions and will likely receive a lengthy ban for his bout of idiocy. It wasn’t a crazy, impactful headbutt by Pardew but it was still a really dumb decision by a professional manager. (Insert your own air quotes around the word professional.)

Pardew offered up this explanation for the headbutt, via Eurosport: “I tried to push him away with my head, I should not have done that.” George Costanza applauds that logic.

The easy joke to make here — or the one everyone on social media will make — is that Pardew was trying to impress Vince McMahon. The WWE boss was linked to a purchase of the club in February.

The incident made for some fun live fodder on Sky Sports. Yes, that’s what Jeff Stelling looks like, FIFA fans.
