ESPN is still providing Bobby Knight a forum to be Bob Knight. In an interview with Mike and Mike this morning, the infamous former Indiana coach expressed his belief that the NBA had “raped” college basketball. Certainly not the most sensitive analogy he could have made.
If anyone should understand the folly of using “rape” in a sports analogy, it is Knight. He sparked a national controversy in 1988, when he compared the stress of being a college basketball to rape, telling Connie Chung “if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.”
[UPDATE: ESPN released a brief statement to The Big Lead about Knight’s comment. “We spoke with him. ESPN regrets the use of the word.”]
