Bryce Harper Got Relatively Heated Over a Spring Training Ejection
By Mike Cardillo
Bryce Harper is batting .214 this spring in Florida. Perhaps some of that frustration bubbled over this afternoon in a late-March Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. Harper walked toward the dugout following a bang-bang play at first base. He must have said something totally un-chill since umpire Chris Conroy decided to run him.
If you’re an amateur lip reader, enjoy the argument. I don’t think he says, “clown call, bro,” despite how much everybody on Twitter wished for that to happen.
Figure this impressive display of anger — for an utterly meaningless game — won’t do much to improve Harper’s standing among his peers, who voted him the most over-rated player in baseball. Jokes aside, the Nationals do need Harper to live up to some of his hype this season considering once again they’re the Vegas pick to win the National League East. It remains easy to forget Harper is still only 21 years old.
