John Daly Has Cut Back to Only 10-12 Cans of Diet Coke Per Day
By Mike Cardillo

John Daly isn’t playing in the Masters this week, however the popular golfer is still in Augusta hanging out in his bus selling all sorts of merch outside a Hooters. The Guardian caught up with Daly and reflected on his hard-drinking days of the 90s, among other topics. Daly says he’s been sober for six years and lost a bunch of weight via lapband surgery.
However he’s still slamming down a ton of Diet Coke on a daily basis, but about half of what he consumed pre-surgery:
"“The band won’t allow me to drink as many. If I don’t have ice, I can’t drink it. I can’t have it straight because of the carbonation. I have to drink it slowly and not out of a can, I need some ice. I used to have 26-28 cans a day. Now I have 10-12 at the most.”"
That’s enough DC to impress anyone this side of Mike Francesa.
The Guardian story also touches on Daly home-schooling his 11-year-old son (until high school so he can play team sports), his 40-cigarette a day habit and his lack of a fitness routine compared to the younger golfers coming up today:
"“Some guys want to do a little more cardio training; I can’t see me being allowed to smoke a cigarette on a treadmill. I don’t think they will let me into the gym if I do that. Will they?”"
Perhaps, if he’s serious about hitting the gym, Daly ought to consider Planet Fitness. It’s only $9.99 per month and bills itself as the “Judgment Free Zone.”
