Corey Brewer added his name to the register of most unlikely players to score 50 points in a regular season NBA game when he poured in 51 for the Timberwolves in their win over the Rockets Friday night. It helped that Kevin Love didn’t play, but even so Brewer’s 51-point eruption is hard to fathom.
Prior to Friday night, via ESPN, Brewer’s previous career-high was 29 points. On the season he’d been averaging 9.9 per game. Also from ESPN: Brewer joins Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson and Rick Barry as the only plays with over 50 points and six or more steals in a game. (Do they still do the ‘Did You Know?’ segment on SportsCenter, this fact seemed perfect for it.)
Brewer is under contract with Minnesota through 2016 so Friday night’s statistical quirk isn’t going to help him swell his bank account any time soon.
