Aldon Smith "Appeared as if he had been drinking earlier in the day," Says Police Officer

Aldon Smith was released from LAPD jail on $20,000 bail Sunday night after he was charged with making a false bomb threat at LAX. The prevailing question, especially given Smith’s past incidents of the law, is how anybody in his right mind could do that. After Smith missed five games last season while in rehab following a single car DUI accident, it was natural to question if he might have been drinking before arriving at the airport.

“He was not what we considered to be intoxicated,” said LAX Police Sgt. Karla Ortiz, via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, “but he appeared as if he had been drinking earlier in the day.”

Ortiz later said that Smith was not administered a BAC test because that was not relevant to the arrest. The 49ers have not commented on Smith since their statement last night indicating that they were “disappointed” and “gathering pertinent facts”.
