Cuonzo Martin will be the next head coach at California, leaving Tennessee after three seasons, and after making a Sweet 16 appearance this year.
He will be joined by Kingsley Okoroh, whose timeline on Twitter captures the move perfectly. Yesterday, Okoroh announced he would be going to Tennessee, much to the delight of many people (who he re-tweeted).
Just committed to the university of Tennessee! Can’t wait to play in the SEC next year

He barely had to time to learn the words to Rocky Top before Martin jumped to Cal.
I announce my commitment to the University of California Berkeley. I’m very excited to be a BEAR !

In reality, he has been committed all along . . . to Cuonzo Martin. While it points to the absurdity of the college basketball environment where kids are forced to sit out while coaches jump at will, Okoroh was in a position where he actually could change rather than go to a place where the circumstances completely changed overnight.
Martin, meanwhile, made a good decision for Cuonzo Martin. He was under public fire in Knoxville as recently as a couple of months ago, when Tennessee was no lock to make the tournament. He loses a lot of his top players to graduation and early entry to the NBA, and would have only one starter remaining. He reset his goodwill clock by moving on.
