Mr. Met once had his life threatened by the Secret Service. Kind of. A.J. Mass, a writer for ESPN who played the part of Mr. Met from 1994 to 1997, has a book coming out. Since Mr. Met doesn’t have any crazy stories about drugs or sex, Mass shared a story about Bill Clinton coming to Shea Stadium for the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking MLB’s color barrier. From CBS New York:

"“Now listen to me very carefully. … We have snipers all around the stadium, just in case something were to happen,” a Secret Service agent told Mass, according to a book excerpt making the rounds. “Like I said, do whatever it is you normally do. Nobody will bother you. But approach the president, and we go for the kill shot. Are we clear?”"

It sounds ridiculous, but it makes sense. The giant baseball head of Mr. Met could hide any number devious instruments. Like, for example, an ESPN employee. [via CBS New York]
