The Spurs eliminated the Mavericks from the NBA Playoffs this season. As a result the Dallas owner Mark Cuban is rooting for San Antonio to win the fifth championship of the Tim Duncan era.

His reasons? He hopes if Spurs capture the title it will prompt the 17-year-veteran Duncan to retire — immediately. The Spurs have beaten the Mavericks in four of their six playoff matchups since the 2001 season.

Here’s what Cuban said on 105.3 The Fan’s Ben & Skin program on Friday:

"“I want San Antonio to win. I want Tim Duncan to hit a game-winning shot to win in Game 7. Then go to the finals and do the exact same thing — hit a game-winning shot in Game 7…run down the tunnel, never to be seen again. I want him to retire on the spot. I hope he gets that last ring and it’s all the incentive he needs to retire.”"

Duncan, 38, has a $10 million player option for the 2014-15 season. If the Spurs go on to win the NBA Championship, Cuban’s scenario could play out albeit probably not in tunnel.
