The Soccer Gods have cooked up an official unofficial song for the United States World Cup efforts this summer. They roped in Alexi Lalas to star in the video. The premise here is the song — “Red, White & Blue” — is so patriotic and devoted to American soccer that it changes Lalas’ entire outlook about the team’s prospects next month in Brazil after a little kid asks him to sign a ball. Makes total sense, or at least the fistbump at the end does in the context of the video.

Although the song sounds, at first listen, like something designed to sell you a Ford F-150, the Soccer Gods did their homework.

Sample lyric: “In ’98 we lost to Iran, I nearly drove my truck off the Hoover Dam.”

Sample lyric No. 2: “In the quarters we were doing just fine, until Torsten Frings handled on the line.”

The only disappointment here is that they didn’t get Lalas himself to sing along.
