Michael Arroyo came off the bench for Ecuador Wednesday in a pre-World Cup friendly vs. England and three minutes later ripped this first rate(*) strike at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium by Ben Foster. For England, fielding a semi-“B” team, the match counted as a perfect warm up in terms of both Twitter jokes at its expense and disappointing the public in the humid afternoon sun. England opens its World Cup campaign on June 14 against Italy in the Amazonian city of Manaus.

The match finished 2-2. Raheem Sterling and Antonio Valencia were each shown a red card after a rash challenge by the Liverpool player prompted some pushing from the aggrieved Valencia later in the match.

(*) Well, as much as you can label any goal where James Milner and Jack Wilshere simply decided to stand around to watch at the top of the penalty area a “first rate” goal.
