California Chrome Owner Rants About "Coward's Way Out" After Triple Crown Bid Falls Short
By Michael Shamburger
California Chrome’s attempt at winning the Triple Crown was stopped short at the Belmont Stakes by Tonalist. California Chrome’s owner, Steve Coburn, was not happy with the results and let everyone know in a rant after the race ended. Coburn’s main issue was that Tonalist didn’t run in either the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness and was fresh and only run to upset the Triple Crown bid. Coburn called the idea that a horse that wasn’t run in either of the other two Triple Crown races “the coward’s way out”.
