Gervinho: Spectacular Solo Stunner Gave Ivory Coast Lifeline vs. Colombia
By Mike Cardillo
Gervinho gave the Ivory Coast a fighting chance down 2-0 in the second half vs. Colombia in World Cup Group C action with a very nice individual run and finish through a forest of Colombian defenders. Although his spell with Arsenal was less-than-memorable, Gervinho put together a fine season at Roma and carried that form into Brazil with a stunning cutback and finish to slice the Colombia lead in half.
Perhaps it’s not in the caliber of Robin van Persie’s header or Tim Cahill’s left-footed volley, but this goal will probably finish in the Top 10 of the tournament. However, given the rate balls are flying into the nets in Brazil there’s plenty of time for it to be surpassed.
