Macau Police Break Up HUGE Illegal World Cup Gambling Ring

macau-gambling-ringPolice arrested 26 people involved in an illegal gambling ring in Macau, China who had been taking telephone and online bets from around the world. One gambler placed a single bet worth more than $5 million. The ring was being operated out of three hotel rooms.

Based on the “HK$5 billion” number in the South China Morning Post, as much as $645,015,650 US could be involved, which would back up the “hundreds of millions of dollars in bets on the World Cup” the BBC article leads with. Wow. That is a lot of money. I just worry I won’t be able to get my $5,000,000 back.
