Lionel Messi scored three minutes into Argentina’s game vs. Nigeria today. Immediately it looked like Alejandro Sabella’s decision to field a Messi-friendly, Barcelona-style 4-3-3 paid dividends. It did, but the system doesn’t gloss over Argentina’s defensive frailties as Nigeria answered the goal barely a minute later through a brilliant, curled strike by Ahmed Musa.
Nigeria advances into the next round with a win or draw. The goal was Messi’s third of the tournament in as many games.
The 2014 World Cup remains amazing and we’re barely getting started today.
