Angel Di Maria Scores Off Lionel Messi Pass, Argentina Outlasts Switzerland

Angel Di Maria finished with his left foot, placing a pass from Lionel Messi into the far corner to push Argentina to a nervy, unconvincing 1-0 win over Switzerland in the Round of 16. Di Maria — and Argentina as a whole — were fairly dreadful throughout the match. Argentina moves on to play the winner of the United States-Belgium game on Saturday.

Notice how the entire Swiss defense (rightfully) swarmed Messi to give Di Maria a little space for his shot in the 118th minute.

How close did this game come to penalty kicks? Switzerland missed twice in the final minutes of extra time after the Argentina goal, including Blerim D┼żemaili hitting the post from point blank range.
