Lest we forget, the 85th Major League Baseball All Star Game is all about No. 2, the Captain Derek Jeter. Love him? Hate him? Whatever, it doesn’t matter, the game is all about Jeter. Fox’s telecast has been about 99.9 percent Jeter worship so far. One fan at Target Field didn’t get the message, trying to get the tried-and-true “over-rated” chant going as the future Hall of Famer stepped to the plate in the first inning.
Naturally Jeter proceeded to hit a vintage opposite field double off National League starter Adam Wainwright to shut the guy up as if it was preordained. He later scored on Mike Trout’s triple.
That’s baseball. That’s Jeter.
