WEEI Host on Erin Andrews: "What a gutless bitch ... Drop dead"

After Adam Wainwright did his about-face about serving up a meatball to Derek Jeter to open the All-Star game last night, WEEI/NESN Dennis and Callahan co-host Kirk Minihane was evidently dissatisfied with Erin Andrews’ line of questioning. “Don’t you just love social media?” Andrews asked.

SportsGrid has video and excerpt of Minihane’s response to the soundbite:

I hate her! What a gutless bitch! Go away. Drop dead. I mean, seriously what the hell is wrong with her? First of all, follow-up. Second of all, the guy admitted he did it. He admitted he told reporters he threw a couple of pipe bombs. How is that social media’s fault? I hate her. Don’t you love social media? Yeah…social media is — shut up. shut up. i’m sure she’s a nice person, but she’s…she’s probably a bitch. I hate her.

It did seem a little bit condescending for Andrews to blame social media for amplifying words that Wainwright had actually said on video to a group of reporters, but Minihane’s reaction to that is about a trillion more times out of line. At the end of the clip, the group seemed to realize they were going to get in trouble for it — it would be shocking if there aren’t apologies and suspensions that come out of this.

This isn’t the first time the Dennis and Callahan show has been connected with outrageously insensitive commentary about Andrews — host John Dennis egged on an off-color peep-hole joke made on Twitter by oft-fired radio host Dan Sileo; Dennis and Gerry Callahan were both suspended for two weeks in 2003 after Dennis compared an escaped gorilla to a student from a black school waiting for the bus.
