Tiger Woods, besides yelling “JESUS CHRIST” at photographers whose cameras clicked in the middle of his backswing, shot a surprising 69 in the first round of the British Open. It’s considered even more impressive given that he went bogey-bogey to open the round. Tiger’s 69 places him in a logjam for 8th place.
Tiger’s only three shots behind the leader, Rory McIlroy, and to everyone who is excitedly proclaiming Eldrick to be BACK … pump the brakes. Tiger performed well in 2012 and 2013 in the opening two rounds of majors, but consistently fell apart on the weekend.
Still, it’s Tiger, so people (and ESPN, and gamblers who took Woods 15:1 to win) will cling to the faintest of hopes that maybe golf’s biggest draw is on the cusp of returning to the force he was a decade ago. [Vine via BMP]
