Rory McIlroy shot a moderately disappointing final round 71, but it was still enough to win the 2014 British Open Championship by two strokes over Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler. McIlroy will earn seven-figures for his feat. His father, who placed a 500-1 bet on him to win the British Open before age 25, will earn six.

McIlroy now owns three of the four major championships. He won the U.S. Open in 2011 and the PGA Championship in 2012. Sergio Garcia remains winless at majors. This was his fourth runner-up performance. Tiger Woods finished 69th, 23 shots behind the leader and fourth from bottom among players who made the cut.
