Kevin Love Has Firm Agreement He'll Sign a 5-year, $120 Million Deal with Cavaliers

Minnesota Timberwolves v Los Angeles Clippers

Kevin Love is getting traded from Minnesota to Cleveland, that much has been known for weeks, but according to Adrian Wojnarowski, the best power forward in the NBA has a “firm agreement” to sign a 5-year, $120 million extension with the Cavs. That sets up Cleveland with a new “Big 3″ – basically, a younger, betting-shooting version of what LeBron had in Miami.

Woj also says that there isn’t a 3rd team involved in the trade, so Philadelphia fans can perish the thought of landing Anthony Bennett. And Woj says Corey Brewer isn’t in the deal either, which stinks for Cleveland, but less so if they are able to sign Shawn Marion, like everyone expects them to.

The framework of the trade: Kevin Love to Cleveland, and Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a protected 2015 draft pick go to Minnesota. It’s unclear which of Cleveland’s three 2015 No. 1 picks are in the deal. But by agreeing to a 5-year, $120 million extension, Love is clearly banking on LeBron staying home and not wavering on his commitment despite the opportunity to do so based on his 2-year deal.

You can start dreaming about a Championship, Cleveland. The Cavs were the favorites to come out of the East before Kevin Love, and they’ll be the favorites to win the NBA Title with him.

The drive, the fumble, the shot – all of that will be forgotten when LeBron delivers the franchise a Championship in 2015. And maybe 2016 and 2017, too. Remember: After three years in Miami, LeBron was facing an aging core with no youth due to lack of draft picks. LeBron is the only one of Cleveland’s big three who will be 30 in three years, and the team has draft picks in the future, as well as youth among role players (Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters).

I think this run in Cleveland is set up to be much bigger than what he did in Miami.
