Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Shawn Michaels all tweeted that they’ll be appearing on WWE Monday Night Raw this week, as noted by Cageside Seats. They’ll be hyping the Brock Lesnar-John Cena rematch at Night of Champions, and, presumably, WWE Network. (Also, especially in the case of Flair and Hogan, themselves.)
With Daniel Bryan injured and CM Punk still in self-exile, WWE has been struggling for a few months to fill 3+ hours of Raw with sufficient star-power. Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt aren’t quite ready to fill that void yet. Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Rusev (with a nod to Lana) have been regularly killing it with their segments, but none of them is established enough to move the needle with casual fans.
Flair and Hogan have been trotted out with regularity recently, and it makes their appearances feel less special. Especially Hogan, who doesn’t have much depth to his promos now. It’s a shame that Stone Cold Steve Austin and Jim Ross aren’t around more often.
