Derek Jeter and Brett Gardner Ran Into a Really Weird Double Play vs. the Red Sox

The Yankees #Season2Remember hit a sour note Wednesday night vs. the hated Red Sox. In the bottom of the first the Yankees attempted a delayed, double-steal (or something) with Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter. It didn’t go so well thanks to some alert throws from the Boston infield, which nabbed Gardner and Jeter, who’d strayed too far off third. We can safely say this play won’t be included as part of the highlight package when the team fetes the retiring Jeter later in the month.

All told, the play likely produced the lengthiest MLB Gameday write-up of 2014:

Score it  2-6-3-4-5-3 in your book.(*)

(*) It’s probably time to retire this axiom given that very few people keeps score in 2014 anymore, either at the game or at home.
