Embattled NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell received some public support from a team owner this morning. That’s the good news. The bad news for Goodell is that the backing came from Dan Snyder, who isn’t exactly crushing it in the court of public opinion.

Snyder’s brief statement suggests the independent investigation being conducted by former FBI Director Robert Mueller is examining the Ray Rice assault, not the NFL’s pursuit and handling of evidence surrounding it.

Oops.

Snyder is the second owner to issue such a statement, joining Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey. He’s the first owner to issue such a statement months after the commissioner publicly defended his team’s controversial nickname.
