Adrian Peterson was booked and released early Saturday morning on child abuse charges in Texas. The Minnesota Vikings acted swiftly and deactivated him for today’s game vs. the Patriots shortly after the abuse allegations came to light late Friday afternoon. Sunday morning multiple NFL reporters write that Peterson will not be with the Vikings today inside TCF Bank Stadium.

CBS’s Jason La Canfora writes that the Vikings will address Peterson’s roster status on Monday. He notes that under the current CBA Minnesota can continue to keep Peterson around for practices and deactivate him for gamedays, but it cannot simply deactivate him for “an extended period of time.”

Ian Rapoport also reports Minnesota’s deactivation of Peterson could extend beyond Week 2:

Vikings’ general manager Rick Speilman told ESPN that the team is still “gathering information” about the Peterson situation. The NFL is investigating the situation under its personal conduct policy.

Meanwhile, despite a July conviction for assaulting an ex-girlfriend, Greg Hardy will start in the Carolina Panther’s home opener today while he appeals the case. (Update, the Panthers deactivated Hardy about 90 minutes before kickoff.)
