Frank Lampard Scores vs. Chelsea, Doesn't Celebrate

Frank Lampard spent over a decade at Chelsea, scoring 147 deflected goals for the Blues while winning just about every major trophy available. Come 2015 the 36-year-old Englishman will play this trade for MLS expansion team, NYCFC. The club happens to be owned by Manchester City, so Lampard is spending the rest of 2014 on-loan at the reigning EPL champions.

Fittingly, Lampard scored his first goal for City on Sunday in an important early-season match vs. his former club. In typical Lampard fashion he found a way to squeeze a ball past the defense of former teammate John Terry despite falling over the second he collected James Milner’s cross. Lampard, unlike many others throughout the Premier League’s history, made it a point not to celebrate against his former club — in fact he almost looked sad. (Yeah, it would have been equally strange had Lampard kissed the City badge.)

Even though it’s September, the goal was important in the Premier League title race. Instead of pulling eight points ahead of City, the 1-1 draw kept it a slightly more manageable six-point gap. Sunday’s draw ends Chelsea’s perfect start to the campaign.

Afterward Lampard and the traveling Chelsea supporters shared a moment:
