Keith Olbermann Poured Some Cold Water on the Derek Jeter Farewell Lovefest
By Mike Cardillo
Did you get the news? Derek Jeter is about to retire. Tuesday afternoon Keith Olbermann opened his show talking about The Captain and argued how Jeter isn’t the greatest player to ever put on the pinstripes. I’ll say this, if you love Jeter you might want to look away. If you’re a Jeter/Yankee hater? You might want to bookmark the clip for a rainy day.
To be fair, Olbermann’s target in the six-minute rant is more the lionization of Jeter’s career and the marketing of his farewell, than the player himself. It is, however, quite eye-opening to see how Jeter’s career numbers stack up contextually in Yankees’ history or, even compare to someone like Scott Rolen.
