Dennis Allen has been fired as head coach of the Oakland Raiders, as reported by Jay Glazer tonight. Yesterday Terry Collins of the AP tweeted that Allen was going to be fired, with an announcement coming as soon as Tuesday. He then deleted the tweet and sent a series of bizarre explanations.

The guess here? Collins had the scoop, but the team was flying back long distance from London, and Dennis Allen had not been told. The source was pissed that the news came out before it had a chance to be communicated to Allen, and Collins walked it back and acted like he had no knowledge.

As for Allen, Oakland was embarrassed in London today playing against the Dolphins, losing 38-14 and dropping to 0-4 on the season. Dennis Allen had won 8 of the 36 games he has coached with the Raiders, after joining the team after serving as the Denver defensive coordinator in 2011.

Remember when Jason Garrett was installed as the favorite as most likely to be fired first? Yeah, his team won against the Saints to move to 3-1. Allen’s Raiders, meanwhile, had lost 10 straight games. He didn’t exactly have the best situation–a team that squandered future picks, had cap issues and has also overspent on castoffs and veterans.
