Yadier Molina Made Contact with an Ump After Adam Wainwright Plunked Yasiel Puig
By Mike Cardillo
There is no love lost between the Cardinals and Dodgers dating back to last year’s NLCS when Joe Kelly plunked Hanley Ramirez in ribs. Tempers flared in bottom of the third Friday evening during Game 1 of the 2014 NLDS in Los Angeles when Adam Wainwright hit Yasiel Puig to leadoff the inning. Adrian Gonzalez, the next batter, started jawing with St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina at the plate, which prompted both benches to clear. No punches were thrown nor were any players ejected, but Molina did make contact with home plate umpire Jerry Meals during the incident.
The Dodgers took a 2-1 lead during the inning. Safe guess: there are more fireworks coming in this series.
Puig and Wainwright appeared relatively cool after the dust up.
