Yesterday, we told you that the Houston Texans fans at AT&T Stadium were so loud that the Cowboys had to revert to a silent snap count. In his post-game press conference, Tony Romo talked about the rarity of that phenomenon, and why it made a huge difference in how he ran the offense.

“I was a little bit surprised at the number of Houston fans there,” Romo said. “We ended up having to go to a silent play count. That was the first time that I’ve had to do that throughout basically the whole football game at home. We need to do a better job as a team, a fan base, and everyone to kind of make sure we understand how big a difference playing at home is. If we’re able to have that, we’re very, very tough to beat at home.”

A reporter asked if Romo was going to buy more tickets.

“If I need to, it’s probably worth it,” he smiled.

“There’s no question … today, we played on the road,” Romo continued. “It was probably half and half, roughly. I don’t know what it was, but, more than anything you could just tell by crowd noise. That was as loud as going to St. Louis or Tennessee. We need to understand that we lose a lot of our ability to do some things at the line of scrimmage, pre-snap, and other stuff that give us a big advantage.”

This type of thing was probably easier to joke about after a win than a loss.

“The funny thing is that when we’re all here, it’s been rocking. The place has really been a tough one for other teams to come in and win. I think the fans have been awesome this year — we just need to maybe tighten up selling our tickets a little bit,” he laughed.

The Cowboys have several issues when it comes to Jerryworld; because of its garishness, it’s a tourist destination. Dallas has gone 8-8 for four straight seasons — and they’ve done that about as painfully as possible — and it’s hard to blame season ticketholders or local fans for not wanting to go to every game. Nevertheless, the Cowboys are sitting at 4-1, tied with the Eagles atop the NFC East. One presumes that if this pace continues, the team will regain its home field advantage.
