Michael Vick Prepares to Be Better Prepared to Prepare For Future Preparation

Michael Vick had his big chance on Sunday when Rex Ryan benched Geno Smith in favor of the 34-year old veteran. Vick responded with a pitiful performance in a 31-0 Jets’ loss. That sucks. Especially for someone who has been preparing for that moment. Here’s Vick on September 9th on WFAN, talking about staying prepared. Via CBS New York:

"“I’m a competitor, so of course — I’m being honest, I’m being frank with you — it’s hard not going out on the field and starting and taking that first snap,” Vick said. “But the role I’m in, I’ve accepted it. And I was able to accept it when I signed on that dotted line to become a Jet. And I knew what my role was gonna be, so I was able to get comfortable in that role, and at the same time I’ve still got to stay ready and stay prepared.”"

To be fair, that was like a month ago. So the fact that he would not be prepared for actually getting to start a few weeks later is totally understandable. Via New York Post:

"“Maybe I didn’t prepare or I wasn’t prepared, but I’ll tell you what, it won’t happen again,” Vick said."

The clichés didn’t end there. Prepare yourself for more.

"“I learned a lesson last week: always stay ready, always be prepared,” Vick said. “That left a bitter taste in my mouth that I wasn’t able to go out and put points on the board or even help this team in any fashion. So this week has been a different work week from me [and] throughout the rest of the year, it’s going to be totally different for me as far as my preparation.”"

I’m going to be completely 100% honest with you, speaking to athletes is a complete waste of time. You have a question? They have a cliché. That cliché is proven bullshit? There’s a bitter taste left in their mouth that results in more clichés. Now we just wait for Vick to step in for Smith on short notice, do something not completely worthless and then we can hear him attribute his success to staying prepared. I’m prepared to use that in a headline.
