DeAndre Hopkins Had a "For Who, For What" Moment on This Fumble

Houston stormed back from a 24-0 deficit against Indianapolis, and thanks to some JJ Watt heroics, were within 33-28 with two minutes left, needing to drive the length of the field for a touchdown. That’s when QB Ryan Fitzpatrick fumbled, and the ball spun on the grass, begging to be recovered. As you can see above (and below), Houston wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (No. 10) was close enough that he could have dove to try and recover the ball, or at least knock it away from the two Colts players who were going for it.

Receivers have alligator arms all the time going across the middle; here, Hopkins (215 pounds) clearly had reservations about diving head first for a football against D’Quell Jackson (240 pounds) of the Colts.

Hopkins giving pause reminded me of Ricky Watters’ classic, “For who, for what?” moment in Philadelphia in 1995.

Indianapolis recovered. The game was over. Houston fell to 3-3; the Colts took the division lead at 4-2. The Texans have lost two in a row by a combined eight points.
