Jay Cutler Is Probably Not Getting a Microsoft Surface Endorsement Deal
By Mike Cardillo
Jay Cutler has transcended into that weird place that now exists in 2014 where an athlete isn’t so much a human being any more but rather a walking, talking, smoking Internet meme. It’s to the point where other NFL quarterbacks are now openly joking about Cutler’s Internet reputation, as Aaron Rodgers did last month.
The latest Cutler-related fun comes via ESPN Chicago’s Jon Greenberg about his lack of knowledge toward Microsoft Surface tablets.
If we’re honest, Cutler isn’t saying anything too insane and is probably not the first person to call a Surface tablet an iPad, granted the “knockoff” tag is a little harsh. For whatever little it’s worth, I’ve seen a Surface in action in real life maybe … twice since they went on the market. (That’s still two more times than I saw Microsoft Zunes.)
The Los Angeles Times wrote in September that numerous NFL commentators have mistakenly called a Surface an iPad. Of course, Microsoft reportedly paid $400 million to the NFL to make Surfaces the “official sideline technology sponsor of the NFL” and probably isn’t too thrilled many still think their product is something else, including Cutler.
As we know with the Beats by Dre story last week, the NFL takes its branding and corporate sponsors very seriously.
