The Giants won their third World Series in five seasons Wednesday night in Kansas City. Back in San Francisco, the fun night of revelry was spoiled by some reported incidents of violence during the post-game celebrations across the city. Couches, garbage and newspaper boxes were set on fire during the celebrations. More serious incidents, sadly, transpired over the course of the night. Two people were reportedly shot in the city’s Mission District and another was stabbed. Both gunshot victim’s injuries are non-life threatening. Several arrests were made throughout the night.

I’ll go out on a limb and guess that police in riot gear is not the image a city wants to send out following a sports team championship.

The San Francisco Chronicle also reports that one police officer was taken to a hospital.

On the flip side, if you click on the link above to the CBS news report it also includes this line in the 10th paragraph, “For the most part, though, Wednesday night’s celebrations were joyous and peaceful,” which obviously doesn’t make for as good a headline.
