Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, Week 10: Adrian Peterson Could Be Back Soon

Adrian Peterson has resolved his legal issues over the child abuse allegations in Texas, and has pled no contest in exchange for avoiding jail time. The next step is finding out what further punishment the league might impose. There is a decent chance that he returns this year, and Peterson is owned in 59% of leagues.

Do you need me to tell you that he is worth an end of roster waiver pick up? You should try to get guys who can help you by being top 15 options at their position down the stretch, and even a 50% chance of Peterson playing in weeks 12 to 16 makes him worth it. This is particularly true in the type of league where Peterson would be available, which are leagues with less roster spots and where starters can be found if necessary.

Here are the rest of the waiver recommendations, and as always, this is for players owned in less than 67% of leagues on CBS Sports, organized by shallow, average, or deeper leagues.

QUARTERBACKS

Shallow: I’ll continue to bang the drum that you want Robert Griffin (65%) after this bye week, as the matchups get better and whoever has played in Washington has weapons.

Deep: Yes, it’s Mark Sanchez (6%), but it’s also the Eagles offense and he will be a top 15 start most weeks over the next two months. A must pick up for Foles owners.

Derek Carr (11%) will get to throw a lot at Denver. A volume play if you are desperate. Similarly, Blake Bortles (19%) vs Dallas in London is the other matchup I would go with in two-QB leagues.

RUNNING BACKS

Shallow: Tre Mason (58%) vs. Arizona is not a great matchup, but over the last three weeks, Mason has had 46 touches to 19 for Cunningham and 8 for Stacy. Weather this week and he should be a starting option down the stretch.

Lorenzo Taliaferro (63%) vs Tennessee is a matchup flex play, because Baltimore should utilize both backs and play with the lead.

Average: It could be Charles Sims (37%) time vs. Atlanta. The rookie has yet to play this year, but with Martin being disappointing and injured, expect him to get some time along with Rainey. And the matchup is against Atlanta, who is the worst in the league at allowing points to backs. High upside flex play.

Terrance West (37%) got slightly more touches than Ben Tate last week, and he did more with them. He also made a key block on a touchdown pass, which is the kind of thing that earns more time on the field. Crowell was a non-factor the last two weeks, so while there is some risk, the matchup with the Bengals and the chance that West could get more than half the carries makes him a start.

Anthony Dixon (35%) had to play against the Jets in game one without Spiller and Jackson. This matchup at home against the Chiefs is a little better.

Deep: Alfred Blue (25%) is a monitor situation for news on how serious Arian Foster’s injury is, during this bye week. If you have a free spot, might get in now and hold for news until next week.

Marion Grice (0%) got the backup touches to Ellington in Arizona this week and added a goal line touchdown.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Jarvis Landry (5%) is carving out a bigger role in Miami and that should continue after how he played on Sunday. The matchup vs. Lions isn’t great, but over the next few weeks, the Dolphins have some fantastic matchups and Landry will be a hot target. Buy in now.

Shallow: James Jones (53%) and Andre Holmes (52%) versus Denver are volume plays in a game where Oakland will have to pass a lot, likely trailing, and because Denver is #1 in rush yards per carry.

Average: Justin Hunter (34%) vs Baltimore, who really struggled on deep balls without Jimmy Smith, is the matchup play this week.

Deep: Several straight matchup plays this week available deep on the wire. Markus Wheaton (22%) may be outshone by Martavis Bryant, but against the Jets he’s still easily a viable play, and has scored two weeks in a row (who hasn’t scored for Pittsburgh?)

Harry Douglas (21%) vs Bucs is the forgotten man, but Tampa is dead last in allowing fantasy points to opposing WRs, and with Jones and White occupying attention, will have some opportunities.

Jerricho Cotchery (11%) vs Eagles is another deep league one time play.

TIGHT ENDS

A couple of injury situations to spring on if you have the roster room. Tyler Eifert (8%) is eligible to come off IR this week, though with the short week, it looks like his return might be against the Saints in week 11. Kyle Rudolph (29%) could be back from injury following bye week, and it’s against Chicago, which is a fantastic matchup if you can plan ahead a week.

Average: For our Gronk owners out there, Owen Daniels (48%) vs. Tennessee and Charles Clay (41%) vs. Detroit are the top two options out there.

Deep: Richard Rodgers (5%) vs. Bears is the roll of the dice play because of the matchup, while Mychal Rivera (6%) vs. Denver is a play after he had 8 catches last week.
